Del Castillo

One of my favorite bands in Austin or anywhere else. We first saw them at Willie's picnic in 2003 for a 15 minute set and have been hooked ever since. I've provided pics where available.

Said "Hello Summer" with a free event on a Friday afternoon in downtown Austin. Following DC, we stayed and watched The Gourds and the Joe Ely band with David Grissom. For earlier show galleries, click on the show title/date to display or hide gallery links and descriptions.

A fantastic and fun show that is becoming an annual Austin holiday tradition.

A chilly night but DC turned up the heat and put on a great show. So much fun! I answered a trivia on the band's Facebook page and won an autographed cymbal and drum head, both in use by Mike Zeoli moments before Sharpies were applied.

A very hot and humid evening/night for this show at a mega-shopping complex. I started feeling a bit wilted and ended up watching further back in the aisles. The band really tore it up.

Celebrating (my husband) Rob's birthday at one of our favorite outdoor venues watching one of our favorite bands. Side note: I believe we spotted John Paul DeJoria standing in the wings, he was wearing a T-shirt that said "CIA," probably like the one Johnny Depp wore in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." Billed as a "stripped down" show, but the sound was as big as ever. Wonderful venue with seats.

Another hot Antone's show.

First show I saw with Bros not in chairs. More pics than usual here! I think I was influenced by the backdrop of sky at this nice outdoor venue.

Show at Antone's, first one I saw with Carmelo instead of Rev.

Only caught the last couple of songs at this heatfest.

Two fantastic shows on consecutive nights with very different setlists (they know we will be back for both of them so they keep it fresh). Friday was Bert's birthday so we got to hear him play guitar while Rick took over the bass. On Saturday the encore was electric and included Monte Montgomery, who also played electric. I have never seen that before!

These are from a show to celebrate the life of Clifford Antone, held the day after his passing. Many artists played, and the show went from afternoon until well into the next morning. See the link on the left sidebar for photos of other performers from this concert. Del Castillo played 3 songs, mostly electric.

Second of a two-night sold-out run at Antone's. This may be the last Austin show for months. It was a great show, one of the best we've seen. It was professionally videotaped. Some wild stuff there at the end, but we didn't have to catch anyone!

The weather was clear, hot and humid. The crowd was not huge but made up for it in enthusiasm, it was a great crowd!! I had room to dance, which never usually happens, and I will use whatever I can get without bothering others. They played a nice long opening set, about 90 minutes.

Monte is a great guitarist who I have admired for several years. His songs are very melodic and memorable; one listen and you're already humming them. He brought out the del Castillo brothers, and the DC percussion section to play on "Took Too Long". It was a great choice, and man the guys were in an all-out battle to outplay each other! It was absolutely fantastic!! Then for the encore, he brought them out again, this time with Bert and Alex. They played "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". A great song choice! I have to say that this was really an unforgettable night!!

Here are some pics of some members of Del Castillo playing with their former bands. Butterfly Tree is one of Rick's previous projects, a duo with Dana Davis. These were taken in September 2004 at Rock for Rescue, a benefit for animals that was held at the Caucus Club.

This is a more recent reunion with Mike Zeoli and Mark del Castillo and their old band Milhouse, Maggie Mae's in May 2005.

This was one of the Antone's 30th Anniversary celebration shows held all week, and it was a great show! Rodriguez always brings in some variety and you never know what to expect. I got to watch him and Johnny Reno rehearsing their Sin City piece in Rodriguez' vehicle while I was standing in line (rehearsing was really just listening to a recording of it and going over stuff without having instruments), and that was pretty cool. Click here to visit the Chingón website, listen to Cuka Rocka and more.

This was a SXSW Showcase. There was an awful storm an hour or so before the band was to play, complete with really hard rain and some lightning. We hunkered down and got soaked to the skin! Spirits were high, and most people stuck around. The T-shirt vendors made a little money from people who just needed something dry to wear. My husband now owns his first tie-dye.

They were able to go on just about an hour late after the tent roof got water dumped out of it by the bucketload and the stage was swept of water. When the rain finally offered a break and a huge rainbow appeared in the sky — one with a pot of gold at each end. If there was a pot of gold there, it would be this band. They played a fantastic show!

After several months I finally get to see an Austin show where the band headlines! There was a benefit show, but it was a bit pricey for us. Anyway, the band has outgrown Antone's... now they have sold out La Zona Rosa! (Ghandaia and Vallejo opened, and I'm sure they helped sell a few tickets too. Enjoyed both of them.) Del Castillo burned the place down! Amazingly great show! La Zona Rosa is not my favorite venue because it is not very fan-friendly, they run you off so fast afterward there isn't even time to find your friends. These things are good for the artists so I can't complain. How do you like my handmade bumper sticker at right?

Another great show at Antone's.

This was an all-day event. It was pouring rain off and on all day (mostly on) and the show was outdoors. Sorry about not having more photos, but the rain and extreme muddiness (of the kind that pigs might enjoy) by the stage kept me from getting more, and better ones.

Footage from this show was included on the Sin City DVD. See a video of Chingón from this performance on the Special Features of the Kill Bill vol. 2 DVD!!

Sin City creates a great excuse for an Antone's bash. Del Castillo was fantastic! We were awestruck, as always. Love the Chingón nights because of getting to hear the film songs with Robert Rodriguez. Some of the band got on stage with Bruce Willis later. Loved Patricia Vonne too.

Bruce put on a good show too, it seemed unreal to be seeing him at Antone's. We got the front center spots, and before too long we got moved to the left to make room for Robert Rodriguez' humongous movie camera, plus he was using it for a long time during the Bruce show so it was really a treat being inches away from him as he was filming. At one point, Bruce got down into the audience, so all of a sudden I am pressed up against Bruce Willis. Not complaining!!! Also, I've never been "glazed" at Antone's before, or should I say "kremed"? Well, I was a little hungry and the donut was good. Getting covered in sugar glaze was ...different.

Release night for Rodriguez' Mexico and Mariachis, and Del Castillo's live DVD filmed by Rodriguez. Also there were Patricia Vonne and Tito (Larriva) & Tarantula.
